Clean Uniform? Che….
Whether you are pulling those school uniforms out of the closet after a long summer or investing in your children’s very first, there are important steps to making sure they stay clean and bright all year.
Since your child will be regularly rotating between a select few garments on a regular basis, it is important to always use cold water and a gentle cycle setting. This will ensure your dresses, slacks, skirts, jumpers, etc… won’t fade as quickly and will keep their structure longer.
In addition to the washing cycle, a correct drying method is also necessary. We recommend to tumble dry on low heat for the shortest length of time possible. Excessive heat will shrink and wear the material, overall, cutting down the lifespan of the uniform.
When the cooler months roll around, we suggest only washing sweaters when necessary. Sweaters lose shape and become dingy much sooner than other garments of clothing. If you don’t dry clean them, make sure you are washing them inside out – that way, if any nicks or pulls occur in the machine, the outside is safe.
Need a little help? That’s what we’re here for. You have enough to do to get the kids ready for school, let us take care of making sure their attire is ready for a new school year!
With the start of summer comes endless weddings and special occasions that you need to buy a formal dress for. But what do you do with the dress after the event? Here’s 4 ways to repurpose your special occasion dress that has just been sitting in your closet waiting for some love.
Love the dress but hate the color? Dresses AND shoes can be dyed to any color you want. Maybe try navy or black to make it a timeless dress that will be a staple in your wardrobe for the rest of your life.
Need to free up some space in your closet? If your gown is in good condition and less than 5 seasons old, you can donate it to Fairy Godmothers which helps high school girls with financial hardship attend prom.
Chop it off:
If your dress is floor length, try altering it to make it your new go-to cocktail dress. Or, if you love the bottom part of the dress, turn it into a skirt! Just bring it to your local tailor to make sure it looks amazing!
Turn it into something else:
Don’t intend on wearing the dress ever again and looking for some new home decor? Try turning the dress into a quilt or a pillow! It’s the best of both worlds.
Before you try any of these repurposing ideas, it’s important to make sure your dress is in pristine condition. Bring your dress into Sandy’s to get it cleaned up. Save $5 on orders of $20 or more!
We all love our pets… however, any pet owner has come to realize that our furry friends are the worst when it comes to helping out with the laundry. Let’s just say, it’s a good thing they’re cute!
1. They can’t help but to lay in the pile of clean clothes when they are warm.
2. They don’t really know how to hang up clothes…
3. The static gets them every time:
4. …and they hide in the washing machine:
Need help with dirty clothes? Don’t waste your time trying to get your pet to help you… Come into Sandy’s Cleaners for all of your dry cleaning needs!
The process of learning how to do laundry can be difficult for some and no one knows this more so than college students. While some have been doing their own laundry for years and would describe themselves as “laundry experts,” many have had the luxury of their parents doing their laundry… until they headed off to college and are now forced to fend for themselves.
Some students are sent off with a laundry “cheat sheet” and a bucket of change, while others make their teens practice doing laundry at home several times before they leave for college. Although parents do their best to prepare their children for the difficult things in life, laundry being at the top of the list, sometimes it just doesn’t work out in their favor. The result? Some serious laundry fails – and we just HAD to share!
1. There’s a first time for everything, right?
2. We suggest going a little easy on the laundry detergent next time.
3. Look on the bright side – maybe you can pass this shirt on to your younger sister now.
The truth is that we’ve all had a few laundry mishaps in our lives – whether it be turning a white sweater pink, shrinking your friend’s favorite shirt, or leaving clothes in the washing machine for five days. Next time you’re having a clothing crisis, don’t hesitate to head over to Sandy’s and let us lend helping hand.

Here are 3 items that you can use regularly to give new life to your clothing, sheets, and cleaning supplies (bonus- you likely already have them around the house!)
Lemons are highly acidic and actually have a number of practical household uses.
If you add lemon juice (approx. ½ cup) to your next wash cycle, it can brighten up your dull whites and make them look as good as new.
Also, adding several teaspoons of lemon juice to your various household cleaners gives them a natural and citrusy aroma, cutting back on their powerful and at times, overwhelming smell – talk about making lemonade out of lemons!
Have you ever left your towels in the washing machine for too long and as a result, they get that wet, mildew smell? Do Have some of your towels have that become ragged and rough feeling? If you have a bottle of vinegar in your pantry, then you have a solution to both of these problems!.
Adding 1 cup of vinegar to your load of towels and washing them on the hot cycle will help get rid of the unpleasant smell. No detergent needed!
Vinegar also acts as a fabric softener and helps make your towels feel soft again. Simply add ¾ cups of vinegar to the final rinse cycle or in the fabric softener slot in your machine and your towels will get a much-needed refresher.
*Thanks to LiveLoveDIY for the tips!
3. Lavender Oil
Lavender oil is known to promote better sleep, so next time you’re feeling sleep deprived, simply add a few drops of lavender oil to your sheets before their next rinse cycle. This will give the sheets a fresh, calming new scent and also potentially help you snag some extra Zzzz’s.
3…2…1…Happy New Year, Charleston! It’s that time of year to look back at the past 365 days and either pat ourselves on the back, or resolve to do better moving forward. For many of us, the correct sentiment would be the latter. Here at Sandy’s Dry Cleaners, we are passionate about protecting some of your most prized possessions, and look forward to serving you in 2015.
Here are three tips for keeping better care of your garments and household items in 2015:
1. Keep Your Comforter Clean
Dirt and allergens certainly build up on a comforter over time, and it’s crucial for the health of you and your family to get these items professionally cleaned. Our recommendation for frequency? At least once a year. Keeping your sleep space clean is just as important as any other aspect of your home, perhaps even more considering the average human spends 1/3 of their life in bed.
2. Stop Wasting Money on Misfit Clothing
We all know the feeling–finding that PERFECT top or pair of pants, bringing it home and realizing a few months later that the fit isn’t quite right. The misfit item then sits in our closet, unworn and forgotten about. Our alteration services are extremely affordable, and could mean the difference between the giveaway pile and your new, favorite garment.
3. Save Yourself Time
We now offer a convenient pick-up and delivery service to residents of the Charleston area. Save time and money while enjoying the luxury of this service. We know you’re incredibly busy, and 2015 is your year to optimize your tasks so you can ENJOY your life.
Suede is a wonderful material for winter wear because it helps keep us warm and cozy. However, it can be a pain if you happen to get a stain on it. Because suede is really tricky to get clean, you need to be extra careful. Check out these tips for keeping your suede clothes and shoes looking brand new!
Read the product label.
Not all clothing that is labeled “suede” is actually made out of suede. There are many different types, so it’s important to know what material you’re dealing with. Luckily, if yours isn’t the real deal, faux suede is much easier to clean than authentic suede.
Don’t let wet stains soak into the fabric.
Suede is one of those materials that you just can’t get wet. If a wet substance drops onto your clothing, immediately blot it up with a towel. If the liquid gets below the surface, the suede will be much more difficult to clean.
Rub an eraser against dry stains.
You can easily remove dried stains by using the eraser of a pencil or a stiff paint brush against it. However, this method typically works just for surface stains.
Bring your suede to Sandy’s.
By having your suede professionally dry cleaned, you don’t run the risk of ruining the material or causing stains to set in even further. We can guarantee that your suede clothing will come out looking as good as new.

Your wedding dress is sentimental. It’s the dress that you spent months–maybe even your entire life–searching for and the dress that you walked down the aisle in to marry the love of your life. But after the wedding, what do you do with the dress? Although you probably can’t wear it again every weekend, there are other ways to keep it around–preserve your wedding dress!
At Sandy’s, we are able to professionally clean and preserve your wedding dress so that it looks just like new, even when you open it up again in twenty years. If you need any further convincing, here are a few reasons that you should consider saving and preserving your dress.
Wedding dresses are expensive.
Your wedding dress probably cost at least a quarter of your entire wedding budget. That’s not an amount of money that is easy to part with. Keep it with you by holding onto your beautiful wedding dress.
Getting your dress professionally preserved will keep it from aging.
Even stains in your dress that aren’t visible now can eventually start to yellow. By having your dress professionally cleaned and preserved, all stains will be removed and your dress will be put into a special box that will keep it just like new.
Pass your dress down to other women in your family.
Was your dress too beautiful to only be worn once? Imagine how beautiful your younger sister, little cousin, or even your daughter will look in it, as well.
Keep the dress as an heirloom.
Create a family tradition by keeping your dress preserved and passing it down among family members. It may be strange to think about now, but your great-great-grandchildren will love to hear about your wedding and see your wedding dress.
Wear your dress again for an anniversary party.
Could you imagine spending your 5th, 10th, maybe even 25th anniversary in the very dress that you first married your husband in? You don’t have to wear it only once–keep it around for those momentous occasions.
We offer professional wedding dress cleaning and preservation at each of our seven locations. Give us a call today at 843-797-8411 or come visit us at any of our locations to learn more about our services! Hope to see you soon!
