How to Care for Sweaters

HOW TO CARE FOR SWEATERS

With fall quickly approaching, it’s almost time to bring out your favorite sweaters. Many people ask us how to properly care for sweaters so to help clear everything up, we’ve created a go-to guide of everything you need to know about caring for sweaters!

First of all, always fold your sweaters and never hang them. Hanging sweaters will not only stretch them out, but also the form of the sweater will change and start to look strange. If your sweater needs repairs like a button sewed on again or there is a hole, you need to do so immediately. If not, the holes will just stretch out and become larger making it harder to repair.

When it’s time to clean your favorite sweater, you must be very careful and read the cleaning instructions on the tag. Never wash a sweater in the washing machine unless it instructs you to do so. Wool sweaters should absolutely never be machine washed! To hand wash a sweater, simply fill a bucket up with soapy lukewarm water and let it soak. Then, when it is time to dry it, let it air dry. Wringing a sweater can also misshape it.

Does your sweater need some extra TLC? Bring it in to Sandy’s, dry cleaning is what we do best!

How to Keep Your Beach Towels and Swimsuits Clean this Summer

Screen Shot 2015-06-17 at 10.52.17 AMHere at Sandy’s, we love summer. There’s nothing better than going to Folly or Sullivan’s Island on a hot day. But with more adventures brings more dirty clothes so we’ve compiled some tips on how to keep your summer laundry as clean as possible!

We love getting a new swimsuit for summertime but sometimes they can be difficult to keep clean. To avoid stretching the fabric, never wring your swimsuit out. Always air dry your swimsuit to make sure it maintains it’s normal shape. Also, you should always rinse out your swimsuit after swimming. It’s okay if you can’t put it in the washing machine right away but a little rinse can help get some of chlorine or salt out of your swimsuit to avoid staining or discoloration.

As far as towels go, they may seem clean but there is a good chance they are not. A lot of people don’t realize the importance of cleaning towels frequently. Before throwing your beach towels into the washing machine, it’s a good idea to let them dry if you can. If your towel is super sandy and needs a deep clean, you can soak it in white vinegar. Put your towels in the washing machine, fill it with hot water, and pour a cup of white vinegar into the washer and let them sit for a hour. After that, run your washing machine on a normal setting and voila, you have towels that are practically new!

Did your favorite summer outfit get stained? Laundry can be tough, leave it to Sandy’s!

4 Ways to Repurpose Your Formal Dress

4 Ways to Repurpose Your Formal Dress

With the start of summer comes endless weddings and special occasions that you need to buy a formal dress for. But what do you do with the dress after the event? Here’s 4 ways to repurpose your special occasion dress that has just been sitting in your closet waiting for some love.

Dye it:

Love the dress but hate the color? Dresses AND shoes can be dyed to any color you want. Maybe try navy or black to make it a timeless dress that will be a staple in your wardrobe for the rest of your life.

Donate it:

Need to free up some space in your closet? If your gown is in good condition and less than 5 seasons old, you can donate it to Fairy Godmothers  which helps high school girls with financial hardship attend prom.

Chop it off:

If your dress is floor length, try altering it to make it your new go-to cocktail dress. Or, if you love the bottom part of the dress, turn it into a skirt! Just bring it to your local tailor to make sure it looks amazing!

Turn it into something else:

Don’t intend on wearing the dress ever again and looking for some new home decor? Try turning the dress into a quilt or a pillow! It’s the best of both worlds.

Before you try any of these repurposing ideas, it’s important to make sure your dress is in pristine condition. Bring your dress into Sandy’s to get it cleaned up. Save $5 on orders of $20 or more!
